چکیده

In this paper, an enhanced solid finite element formulation for rotor dynamics analysis is presented. The kinematics first defined with a Total Lagrangian in order to account possible centrifugal stiffening effect and its associated pre-stress deformation. novelty of the three-dimensional proposed study then correctly consider inertia due small rotational deformation occurring around pre-stressed equilibrium position. motion characterized by interpolation translational degrees freedom element. accuracy convergence are tested on several numerical examples consisting rotating rigid disk Timoshenko beam different slenderness ratios. All results agree well analytical solutions excerpted from literature demonstrate usefulness applicability formulation.

Finite Element Simulation of a Magnetic Brake with a Soft Magnetic Solid Iron Rotor

A rotational magnetic brake with a solid iron rotor is excited by a DC current (Fig. 1). The magnetic properties of the rotor are highly nonlinear. Currents are induced in the moving conductive rotor. The magnetic flux is swept along in the direction of the rotation (Fig. 2). The oscillations appearing in the finite element solutions at high speeds (Fig. 3), have a non-physical nature and are r...

Motional finite element simulation of magnetic brakes and solid rotor induction machines

The torques of a magnetic brake and a solid rotor induction machine, fed by sinusoidal voltage sources, are simulated by a motional finite element method. Oscillatory solutions occurring for motional models with elevated velocities, are prevented by adaptive mesh refinement relying upon intermediate solutions stabilised by upwinded finite element test fiinctiotls. A relaxed successive approxima...

A micromechanics-enhanced finite element formulation for modelling heterogeneous materials

In the analysis of composite materials with heterogeneous microstructures, full resolution of the heterogeneities using classical numerical approaches can be computationally prohibitive. This paper presents a micromechanics-enhanced finite element formulation that accurately captures the mechanical behaviour of heterogeneous materials in a computationally efficient manner. The strategy exploits...

Element-splitting for Simulation of Fracture in 3d Solid Continua

Algorithms for simulation of strain localisation and fracture in 3D solid continua subjected to impact loading are presented. The methodology relies upon the classical continuous Galerkin Finite Element Method for spatial semi-discretisation and the leap-frog central difference scheme for temporal discretisation of the governing partial differential equations. The material behaviour is represen...

Simulation of 3d Rtm Process Using Solid Shell Element

Introduction In the era of process modeling of composite materials, 3D simulation of manufacturing processes is desirable considering the manufacturing trend where parts became more complex leading to complex 3D stress-strain states. Moreover, coupling of sub-processes that are happening simultaneously such as macro-scale preform processes, flow advancement and solid and fluid interaction requi...
